Studio Policies

Welcome! I’m so glad to have you or your child as a student. Piano has been my passion since the first time I laid eyes on a beautiful baby grand at my first piano lesson and began to play, and it is a passion I hope to pass on to my students as well.

The following are some basic expectations and policies for piano lessons. It’s the nitty gritty before we get to the fun stuff. Let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to working with you and your child!

Lesson Expectations

Please bring a notebook to record homework for the week and log practice time.
It doesn’t matter the type or size – whatever you like best!

During lesson time, the student is expected to pay attention to the teacher and the methods being taught and to take the lesson seriously. Students are expected to be respectful of the teacher and of the teacher’s home and family. Consistent poor behavior and lack of weekly practice can result in cancellation of lessons.

We like to have a lot of fun during lesson time. Often, we will do exercises away from the piano to teach
certain techniques or musical concepts. All students do not learn alike, therefore they are not all treated with
the same teaching methods. The teacher will continually evaluate what is working and what is not
and will adjust to teach the student in a way that he/she learns best.

Curriculum & Materials

All materials needed for lessons are the student’s responsibility to purchase. Most can be purchased from Amazon or an online or local music store. Specific materials needed will be discussed at the consultation. For children (including teens,) method books typically include a lesson book, technique, theory, and notespeller and range in price from $20-$30. Adult books typically have an all-in-one option that range from $15 – $25. These costs are not included in tuition fees and must be purchased by the student or parent.

Students are welcome to provide current method books they have been working in as long as it is still an appropriate level for the student which will be determined at the consultation of the student has had previous lessons.

In addition, students may provide supplemental music options of interest, such as Christmas books, or specific music they’d like to learn that is level-appropriate. These will be added into the lesson following the regular method book curriculum.

The teacher may also offer and lend additional music options from the library as the student advances to learn beyond method books.

Missed Lessons

No refunds or credits will be given for any missed lessons for any reasons; therefore, I encourage you not to allow yourself or your child to miss any lessons as it also disrupts the flow of learning for you/them.

All lessons missed by the teacher will be made up to the student at the earliest convenience of the student that fits the teacher’s schedule or a credit will be given on the following month’s tuition.

Due to the teacher’s schedule, lessons cannot be switched to other days of the week unless a make-up is able to be rescheduled, but it is not guaranteed. Times available are limited due to a full-time work schedule during the day. Please check your schedule to make sure that extra-curricular activities do not interfere with your child’s scheduled lesson time. Due to occasional working circumstances that may involve travel or other unforeseen circumstances, if the teacher requests to reschedule a lesson for the week and the student is unable to reschedule, a credit will be issued for the following month’s tuition.
